Online security is an increasingly important area for maintaining vigilance for the overall safety and security of personal data. With so many operators now using cookies and other forms of tracking movement around the web, it becomes increasingly important to stay aware of the risks online and taking actions to prevent any fraudulent behaviour.

Reading up on VPNs from firms like debestevpn will help to build a basic understanding of how to increase online security, however big firms like Google are now playing their part more seriously in combating security risks from their end too.

Brand new front line security measures

A lot of security measures can be actioned on the front end of websites, many of which have already implemented password protections and two factor identification. Google is now integrating the latter option, allowing users the visibility to see that the company is working on increasing the levels of online safety while using the site and its attached programs.

Activating the extra security is a simple process of users having to authorise that it is them setting up the process.

In relation to apps and downloadable content, Google Play is also set to endure an overhaul with listings on the user side displaying the use of collected content and who will have access to it. This then gives Google Play users the ability to pick and choose which apps they want without unknowingly having their data shared around by third parties.

Protection behind the scenes

In addition to all the work being done on the front end for online security, Google are also hard at work with coding to ensure heightened safety from hackers and cyber attacks.

With the latest release of the Chrome 90 application for Windows devices, the team at Google announced that hardware-enforced stack protection was integrated in to the system to help prevent attacks on the coding of the system.

One more process being added in behind the scenes for developers to add their own signature so to speak on images. Acting in collaboration with Linux Foundation and Red Hat a system called Sigstore was created in order to allow verification of images.

This is just as important as content and phishing links, as clicking on images can also lead to open windows for hackers. By implementing Sigstore the risks of being caught out by malicious coding is minimised.

VPNs and online security

With Google working hard their end to protect users, it’s also important to point out that VPNs, or Virtual Private Networks, can really have a great benefit in aiding online protection.

Created through combining a complex system of security features, VPNs are effectively impenetrable by hackers and allow users to sign on to the Internet safely without concerns of being traced.

No data is saved in any online session so movements cannot be retraced after a session has ended, and the software is available on a global scale. Making it a must for computing at home.
